Rose (the Sentient Cactus)

from Astronaut by Maddie Witler

/

lyrics

Rose was a sentient cactus
liked to travel around in space
Exploring all the galaxy for all the cactus race
says “I’m skilled and independent but I do admit there’s times,
I do have other cacti on my mind.”

“I’ve searched the final frontier for
A long time now alone
I’ve been a thousand places
But none of them is home”

Silently she floats along
And never hesitating
Cause the universe is waiting
In the distance

Rose was sentimental though
Against her better judgment
Falling for whatever planet
She’d be closely watching
Knowing that no matter what
She found that in the end
She’d have to leave and start it all again

All The milky way’s a highway
And the stars all form white lines
And there’s not another life sign
For at least 8 billion miles

She turns and points her ship to earth
And wonders what she’ll find
She thinks back to another place and time

The desert in the evening
Just before the sun goes down
And the cars along the asphalt
Become the only sound

And as she nears familiar space
She hesitates and sighs
she turns around and heads
for the next system
